Life with firestick

So thanks again to Shrinivas who was in the US during Black Friday and could get me the Firestick 4k from Target.

Why did i need the Firestick ?

I already have a chromecast.I don’t watch the TV at all. Amma needs something to watch while she’s all alone at home during the day.

I taught her how to use youtube and all but i guess she wanted the cable channels. We tried using some live tv apps .sadly, it was difficult to cast those to the Tv and mum lost interest quickly.

A firestick with a remote would be the best thing, so I waited for a good deal.And a good deal it was , for about 25 bucks you’d get the 4k version( which is about 1/3rd of the price in India).

Setting it up proved more difficult than I thought. I had to remove the TV off its supports since i couldn’t access the HDMI slots.The rest was smooth.installed App2Fire app on my android phone and transferred a lot of apps to the Firestick.

The best feature I think of the Firestick other than the remote is the Voice commmands

My mom asks it to play Lalita Sahasranamam and it does. Although she has trouble still with moving the selection box at times . I think she’s getting it.

Also, Dad likes watching documentaries from Hotstar. I think it opens up a new world in terms of foreign tv channels and radio for them.

I was also able to change the overscan on the TV( basically the video expanded beyond the screen)

I would definitely recommend the Firestick

I’m looking forward to buying a bluetooth gaming controller and play some games on it too.
